Beginning to the Lord's Prayer

 ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” Matthew 6:9 NIV

 

God is truly the Father of all. He is our maker, our creator. He also is a loving, merciful, and compassionate Father. What a beautiful way to begin a prayer, by acknowledging God as such, as who He is. We should approach God in prayer, both in awe and reverence. We should recognize Him for who He is before asking of the needs which we have.

 

We know of the omnipresence of God, yet here we speak of Him being in heaven. Although He lives within us, through the indwelling Spirit, sent to those who believe in Jesus Christ, He is also far above us, residing in Heaven. There are times we need to think of God in this manner.

 

God’s name is Holy. He is Holy. There is none above Him. We are to love Him with all our heart, mind, and soul. We must truly recognize Him for who He is. Do we just go to the Father with our needs? I pray that not be the case. Worshipping and glorifying our God certainly needs to be at the forefront of our praying.

 

Jesus certainly provided us with wonderful words to begin any prayer that we take to our Heavenly Father.
