“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 NIV
Notice that Christ does not say that we are just light. He says that we are the light of the world. We that belong to Christ, reflect the light of Christ from within. It is not light generated of ourselves. It is the light of Christ that dwells within us. This light is not to be kept within, it is to be shared in a world which is filled with darkness and evil. We are to let the light that is Christ shine through us in our words and our deeds. This is to be done that others may see the good we do, and thus glorify God. The light shining forth from us is not meant to bring us fame or fortune, or recognition for ourselves. It is done that God may be glorified.
Let you light shine before man, that the provider of that light, God, might be glorified!

Interesting, I read about showing God in todays "Our Daily Bread." It said that when we have Jesus inside us, this "invites other to ask 'what's inside' "
I remember the Bible song we sang when I was little, and I think my daughter sang it somewhere:
"This little light of mine
I'm going let it shine
This little light of mine
I'm going to let it shine
Let it shine...
Hide it under a bush, oh no!
I'm going to let it shine...
The scripture referenced in the sidebar in today's Our Daily Bread:
