Becoming Familiar With Shepherd
Through His Voice

For the sheep, knowing the voice of the shepherd is essential. The way that the sheep comes to know his shepherd is through the shepherd's voice. The voice of the shepherd and the word of the shepherd are one. Getting to know the shepherd's voice begins with the sound. Just like there are no two fingerprints that are alike, there are no two sounds that are alike.

To help the sheep become familiar with his voice the shepherd when with his sheep is continuously engaged in conversation with his sheep. When the shepherd wants the sheep to do something, he makes it a routine or a fixed program that’s accompanied by a specific sound. The sheep become familiar with both the routine and the sound. It is through this repeated action that the sheep can distinguish between the voice of his shepherd and the voice of a stranger.

John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
The sheep walk in the way of the shepherd because they know the shepherd's voice. All the shepherd need to do is walk before his sheep, letting his sheep hear his voice, and the sheep follow. The protection of the sheep is in knowing the sound of their shepherd. The sheep will not follow the stranger because do not know his voice. The sheep recognize the stranger by his unfamiliar voice, and he will not follow the stranger.

I run into people who will not receive truth, the word of God because they do not know his voice; they are afraid of being misled. We become one with the voice that we follow. When we follow the Lord by his voice, we become one with him.

Our shepherd is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. He will never change, and there is none like him. His voice can be heard in what’s written, but we must commit ourselves to the hearing of his word as it is written in the Bible.

The Voce Of Truth

The voice of our shepherd is the voice of truth, and the truth is the word of God. As the Lord's sheep, we follow him as we listen to and walk in the way of truth.

John 14:6 - Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 17:17 - Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is the truth.

John 18:37 - Pilate, therefore, said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

The sheep follow and walk in the way of truth because shepherd's word is their life; the sheep are one with the shepherd's word, and everyone that's of the truth will hear the voice of the shepherd.

The Incorruptible Seed

1 Peter 1:23 - Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.

The incorruptible seed in the word of God and the word of God is the truth. If we are born of the incorruptible seed then we are born of the truth, and if we are born of the truth we are of the truth, and we should hear the truth when it's spoken.

1 John 4:6 - We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Sheep will hear the truth, and true children of God will listen to truth. When we hear the truth or the word we will walk in the way of truth. What I just said is equivalent to hearing the voice of the shepherd and following and walking in the direction of the truth.

Furthermore, to become familiar with the voice of the shepherd is to become familiar with the God's word as it is written.
