After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route. Matthew 2:1-2 and 9-12 NIV
The city of Bethlehem is located slightly over six miles south of Jerusalem. We are not told the length of time elapsed between the Magi inquiring about Jesus in Jerusalem, and their locating Him, led by the bright star that went before them. It might have been less than one day, or a few days. We do not know. The star guided them to the location of the Savior. What they must have felt, being led by a star to where the new born king lay.
What a wonderful sight this must have been. The Magi came to worship the newborn king, the King of Kings. They brought gifts for the newborn king. They wanted to find a material way to show their belief in Jesus as royalty. But, their true gift was worshipping Him.
We can bring many gifts to Jesus. We can bring money, our talents, our time, and other gifts to Him. But, the most wonderful of gifts which Christ seeks is our heart. He seeks our love, our obedience, our worship of Him. He seeks that we work to bring glory to the Father and to Him. We must worship and glorify God. It is not that He needs glory to be given to Him. God is who He is, regardless of mankind. Yet, He seeks us, asking us to depend on Him, knowing that without the Father and the Son, we are nothing. Give God the gift He really desires. He has done so much for you, so, give yourself wholeheartedly to Him!

You laid out how the Maji were led by God. They obeyed and did not question the quest God sent them on.
Great point about God wanting our hearts more than anything. Good explanation about the gifts the Maji brought being symbolic to show that Jesus is royalty. It's too bad "the money changers" today twist the idea of gifts around for their own self interests.
