A lot is going on in my life, in my health and in my relationships.

There was a time when breaking up with this particular person rocked my world. When being referred to cardiologist as a "precaution" because the doctor saw something minor on my EKG would have panicked me. When working to get my statistics at work within acceptable ranges would have consumed me.

Now I know these things are a blimp on the radar, that they are nothing my God can't handle (Jeremiah 32:27.) I know He has a purpose for my life (Jeremiah 29:11.) A purpose I am not done with yet.

I have something most people don't. I have a sense of purpose. As naive as it might seem, I still have grandiose ideas of changing the world. Or at least changing lives--one person at a time.

That's why I am particular about who I hang around.

I kept a person in my life. Even though I loved him, even though we were good together, I knew I couldn't move on with my purpose as long as he remained in my life.

I broke up with him, but he would somehow work his way back into my life. I needed help. God's help.

I kept praying, "Lord, the battle with this is not mine but yours (Exodus 14:14)."

Not long after, the person and I had a fight. I called him on his behavior. He accused me of wanting attention. He walked out of my apartment, and I never heard from him again.

We must watch who we hang around. We need godly people who are of good character in our lives.

The wrong people will delay us from moving on, of getting to the purpose God has for us.

Think about it for a moment.

Who do you have in your life right now? Do they treat you well? Do they build you up? Do they tear you down?

Who is going to help your fulfill your purpose? Who won't?

Ask God to bring the right people into your life and cause the wrong ones to walk.

The right people will make us. The wrong ones will break us.
