They Feasted on My Good Life

Many falsehoods captured my truth,
leaving me blind to heart and mind.
Deception wound my truth through lies,
knotting me out of my own reality
into the dungeons of torment below.

Unable to unravel their cobwebs,
my tormentors took hold of my life,
bringing me much pain and misery,
feeding upon the good meant for me
at the cost of my own welfare.

Yet when clear light broke through my night,
and I saw beyond their shadows,
my wounds sprang all their traps at once,
thinking I was as good as dead,
caught in their cruel fowler’s nets.

Yet a fierce strength rose within,
and broke those tyrants great and small,
and set me free from their control,
and gave me back my freedom again,
feasting on good days, growing new life.
