Is there wisdom in the counsel of many (Proverbs 15:22), or is the foolishness of God wiser than human wisdom? Wisdom is one of those things that is not always the way it seems. What is Godly wisdom, and how do we apply it to our lives to fulfill our God-given destiny? 1 Corinthians 1:25 says, For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength (NIV).  

What if your friend said to you, “Hey, I saw a prostitute walking down the street, and a few days after that, I heard the Lord tell me that she’s going to be my wife.” You might think to yourself, “My friend will definitely need inner healing or some serious help because that is obviously not God.” Is it God’s will for someone to marry a prostitute? It was for Hosea (Read Hosea 1:2).  

The God who put Abraham to the test by telling him to kill his son (Genesis 22) is the same God who sent Jesus to die on a cross so that no one would perish. The God who told us to estimate the cost of building a tower to make sure there’s enough money to complete it (Luke 14:28) is the same God who supernaturally turned water into a wine that could have been sold for a profit. The God who told us that money is the root of all evil is the same God who made King Solomon the wisest and richest man who ever lived (2 Chronicles 1:11-12).  

The truth is that wisdom has nothing to do with what feels right or even with what people think is a good idea, but it has everything to do with truly knowing the Scriptures which reveal both the heart and the character of God. What’s wise to us can look like foolishness to God, and what’s wise to God can look like foolishness to us. While all the above are great examples from Scripture of what wisdom looks like, above everything, Godly wisdom comes from knowing the heart of God for people. When we let go of our pride and submit to the foolishness of God, that’s when we will see a revival that will never end.
