Farewell to earth--I cannot, cannot tarry;
Sweet voices call me from the other shore.
Beyond the shadows, gates of pearl are shining,
And I must hasten home forevermore.

I cannot stay; the links with earth are breaking;
This house of clay is sinking to its rest.
My soul yearns toward the land of the immortals,
To take its place in mansions of the blest.

I cannot linger; Jesus' voice is calling;
He waits for me at heaven's open door.
Though Jordan overflows, a pathway opens;
My great High Priest has passed this way before.

I must away: earth dims, its glory passes;
The other world grows bright before my view.
But safe inside the gate I shall be waiting,
When His dear voice shall someday summon you.

Farewell, beloved; all things of earth must end;
But resurrection morning too must come,
When all of those who love the Lord's appearing
Shall gather with Him to their heavenly home.

And there, no sad farewells are ever spoken;
No empty arms or broken hearts shall grieve;
No tears shall fall, no love-ties shall be broken;
All this awaits His own who now believe.

The last goodbye, the final tear is coming;
Creation's groans shall all be hushed at last.
Our pain shall turn to praise, our sighs to singing,
And sorrows of our pilgrimage be past.
