Franky Schaeffer and the Decline of True Religion

I just watched a video by Gary DeMar who is a post millennialist and believes things will get better eventually after perhaps hundreds of years pass by and Christianity becomes the voice of the everyday working man or women. 

Putting aside what I believe is an incorrect eschatology of Mr. Demar let us hone in on his recent evaluation of Frank Schaeffer's shift from an evangelical fundamental type of Christian who was brought up by a prominent apologist father, the late Francis Schaeffer and Edith Schaffer, who were both social critics, speakers and authors that started the L'Bri Fellowship in Switzerland.

According to Mr. DeMar Frank Schaeffer became an angry man who, after years of an evangelical and conservative upbringing and a successful career as a film maker working with his late father on several excellent films including "Whatever Happened to the Human Race" and "How Shall We Then Live",  rejected much of the thinking of his parents while acknowledging their courage and influence on his life.  

Has Frank Schaeffer "gone off the deep end?" 

Crazy for God is his latest book detailing his adventure through his religious upbringing and his criticism of his parents life long work.

Author Oz Guiness who worked along side the late Francis Schaeffer has this to say about Frank Schaeffer's "Crazy for God"

"The problem is not so much that Frank exposes and trumpets his parents flaws and frailties, or that he skewers them with his characteristic mockery.  It is more than that.  For all of his softening, the portrait he paints amounts to a death-dealing charge of hypocrisy and insincerity at the very heart of their life and work.  In Frank's own words, his parents were crazy for God.  Their call to the ministry actually drove them crazy so that religion was actually the source of their tragedy.  His dad was under the crushing belief that God had called him to save the world.  Because of this his parents were happiest when farthest away from their missionary work.  They were professional proselytizers.  Their teaching was indoctrination, and it was unclear whether people came to faith or were brainwashed and under the spell of his parents.  Frank's own arguments and their support he says were a kind of circus trick."

This is not a very flattering or encouraging statement of Frank Schaeffer's current state of mind.

Back around 1983 I was in the same room as Franky Scheffer having heard his talk about the Christian faith as it applied to film making and the arts and after watching Gary DeMar's video today I had this to say:

"Perhaps Frank (Franky) Schaeffer is just another victim of apostasy in this modern culture that disregards Biblical truth and opts instead for what is emotionally convenient and intellectually satisfying.

Perhaps Frank Schaeffer was never truly born again. He once professed the truth but now seems to deny much of what he once believed. This is sad and dangerous because nothing short of his soul's welfare is at stake.

Many children brought up in conservative or fundamental households turn away their ears from hearing the truth and embrace liberal ideas which militate against the Christian faith of the early apostles.

Personally I believe we are in the final apostasy when men and women reject the truth as revealed by Christ in His word and Satan gathers his army of rebels to make war against God's saints which comprise the true body of Christ (the church)

Evidence for this phenomenon is all around us from the attack on creation per evolution to Marxism to textual criticism (rejecting the authorized version of scripture for modern Bible perversions) to the creation of the Federal Reserve 1913 to WWI and WWII to the many millions who were murdered under ruthless and brutal dictators to the break down of the family per divorce and re-marriage, rock n rock, sexual revolution, abortion on demand (Roe v Wade 1973) to the rise in the occult, Satanism as an official religion and the Charismatic movement which features lying signs and wonders, prosperity theology, the emerging church and growth of mega-churches which preach false gospels of free will denying the fundamental truths of scripture.

All these things argue for a falling away from the truth and defeat of the local church as false religion and philosophy merge with the Beast (the State) as described in Revelation 20. We are almost to the end of history as I see it and things will only get worse as described in 2 Timothy 3.
