Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. Ephesians 4:14-16 NIV

People in their infancy as Christians are more likely to ride the roller coaster of life with turbulent mood swings. One might even be tempted to return to the old, worldly way of living. The infant Christian is more likely to be led astray by deceitful people, even some who claim to be Christians. It is a good idea for an infant in Christ to have a mentor, someone who is a mature Christian. Christ has told us that we will face tribulation in life. But, He also has told us to take courage, as He has overcome the world.

As we grow in our Christianity, we learn to speak the truth in love. Being a Christian can be challenging, and often we need to direct someone to the fact that what they do is not in alignment with actions of a Christian. We must share with love, showing the proper way to live as a Christian. We must constantly be in prayer with our Lord, as the evil one is at war with us. We must always ask that the Holy Spirit guide us in the ways of the Lord.

As we mature in our walk with Christ, we desire all the more to be like Him. We realize that without Him, we are nothing. We know that in advancing the kingdom of God we can help others to grow in their Christian maturity.

We all have work to do in advancing God’s kingdom. We have different gifts, and tasks to do for our Lord. We are all different parts of the body (of Christ). Let us follow our head, Christ, and work toward unity as we grow in our Christian maturity.
