   There can be so much complexity and subtlety in a human facial expression, as I noticed today both in person and by way of photograph involving people I don’t even know. (Even the faces of animals possess some of this.) It’s so presumptuous of us to think we can always identify some of these expressions verbally. We can attempt to do so, and that is good, but it is only an attempt at best, and let it be a humble one. The human face is so wondrously complicated the way it projects,  the way it conceals,  and the way it cannot conceal or the way it cannot help but project the nuances of the thoughts and emotions and desires behind it. And since complexity is one of the elements of true beauty, there is immense potential then for beauty in our faces, and we’re talking about far more than the superficial good looks of magazines. The human face is beautiful!
   How much more then the beatific glimpse of the Face of the One who formed our faces in the first place in the Divine Image, how much more terribly beautiful it will be to read your whole life and yet forget it at the same instant in one all-absorbing glance!
