Grief

It has been rightly said that part of us dies when a loved one dies, that part of us that he or she uniquely brought to life.
It has also been said rightly that a loved one continues to live on in the ones that loved him or her and are still alive to remember and tell of that love or express and apply it somehow in their living. I would go so far as to say there is a relationship between the two.  That part of us that dies with our beloved must die in order for something new, some new quality and presence to be born and rise out of the ashes in a kind of resurrection.  The dear departed brought forth in me or you that facet of personality that only he or she was able to bring forth.  That personal facet dies with them when they die, leaving an aching void that demands to be fully felt. And once fully felt as far as that is possible, a resurrection follows and the void is filled; now I too have the ability to draw from others something akin to what was wondrously drawn from me. 
   This is, after all, not an unfamiliar theme.   After Jesus died, resurrected and then ascended, His Spirit descended upon the believers gathered during the feast of Pentecost.  He was gone but His Spirit was very much present, through which he continued to live in and through the newly emerging church and continues to live today as the church goes on on growing, developing, and preparing itself for His soon Return.  Soon return?  Absolutely, if He told John the Revelator at the end of the New Testament, "Behold, I am coming soon,"  and Jesus considered it soon then, it cannot be any less soon now, only more so.  So this is not the last word,  many of us are in for another stage of this grieving process, known and described as unspeakably joyful reunion!
