Save Yourself

The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.” Luke 23:35-37 NIV

It certainly was within the ability of Jesus Christ to save Himself from the crucifixion He underwent. But, even if He had done this, those who sneered at Him would not have believed in Him. Their hearts were too hardened to believe. They would have then wanted even more signs as proof to His true identity.

Jesus did not save Himself from this brutal death, as it would have ruined the perfect plan of the Heavenly Father. Imagine a life for all mankind without salvation. We would live only to die. We would all die in our sins. This is not what the heavenly Father had in mind for mankind, His creation.

Jesus knew His mission. He knew everything He needed to do. Out of love for mankind and obedience to the Father, Jesus accepted His brutal death on the cross. Because He did so, we are given the opportunity to have salvation and eternal life through Him.

 Thank you, Lord Jesus for not coming down off your cross. You did not need to prove to those ignorant people that you are the Son of God. You wanted us to have salvation through you. We are truly blessed who believe in you.
