Between Two Criminals

Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. Luke 23:32-34 NIV

Jesus, the Son of God, was executed between two criminals. Was the fact that they put Him in between the two criminals meant to say that they believed Him to be the worst criminal of the three?

Try to imagine the excruciating pain one would feel as nails were hammered through the hands and feet to keep the body connected to the cross. Excruciating pain can cause many reactions for the one who faces such pain. Now, consider that the one who faced this pain asked the Father to forgive those who did this act, as they really did not understand that which they were doing. Who, besides Jesus, could have shown love like this as He was tortured. His love is truly amazing.

If this was not enough, Jesus saw those who cast lots for His clothes.

Jesus loves each of us, whether we are a believer in Him or not. I really don’t believe that we now can truly understand the magnitude of the love our Lord has for us. The creator of the universe and all that is contained within loves us more than we could possibly know. Let us always thank the Father and the Son for their eternal love for us.
