Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.” So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied. Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.” Luke 23:1-4 NIV

In this introductory meeting between Jesus, the Jewish leaders, and Pontius Pilate, it did not take the procurator long to determine that the Jewish leaders had no claim against Jesus to warrant a condemnation to death. Yet, Pilate did not truly take matters into his hands, and issue a proper verdict. Be careful before condemning Pilate. His ultimate actions led to the crucifixion of our Lord, and thus our salvation and redemption.

Why did Pilate not issue a proper verdict? He was too easily influenced by the demands of others. Are we not that way ourselves at times, giving into others requests rather than doing what we know is proper. Others definitely can have an impact on the decisions we make. Many things can influence us to give in when we know it is not what is proper.

When we give in, and err from what Christ asks of us, we know we have done wrong. If we truly belong to Christ, we will go to Him, asking for His forgiveness, and then return to His ways.

Be careful in how you let others influence your decisions. Do not rush into a decision, and be sure to seek the Lord in prayer.
