He Keeps On Loving

When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him. Luke 22:49-51 NIV

In a span of less than 24 hours Jesus went from being arrested to being crucified on a cross. Yet, during that time Jesus continued to love.

Let’s look at four acts of His love within that short time span.

First, he performed a miracle by healing a man who had his ear severed by a sword of one of Christ’s followers. Yes, Jesus healed a man who was amongst the group arresting Him. What an act of love.

Secondly, while hanging on the cross, Jesus uttered “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.” Christ asked for forgiveness for all those who were crucifying Him. This act of love is beyond remarkable.

Next, Jesus gave His mother Mary into the care of His disciple John. Even as He was dying, Christ was concerned about the well-being of those He loved.

Finally, as Christ neared death, He told one of the thieves hanging on a cross next to Him that on that very day he would be with Christ in paradise. What a beautiful act of love.

Do you ever feel like Christ’s love is far away? Christ’s love is near always. If Christ could show the above acts of love during His time of suffering, how much more He can show His love now, as He sits at the right hand of the Heavenly Father. Feel the love Christ has for you!
