Seeing Christ's Humanity

 He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. Luke 22:41-44 NIV

Do we not seek the humanity in Christ, as well as His deity?

This passage, definitely, reveals Christ’s humanity. Christ knew His mission. He knew all that the Father asked of Him. Yet, He asked the Father, if it was His will, to take the cup of suffering away from Him. Christ did not want to suffer, yet He knew He must do so in order that mankind might receive salvation through Him. Christ needed to be strengthened, so an angel came to Him. Jesus was in anguish, and His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. The Son of God, full of grace and truth, full of peace and joy, was in anguish, not wishing to suffer.

Christ had feelings just like all of us, and showed them. Christ, however, never sinned, and carried out all the work given Him by the Heavenly Father.

If Christ felt anguish and did not wish to suffer, we do not need to think there is something wrong with our faith if we at times have these same feelings. We must though in all cases turn to the Lord, asking Him to care for us, protect us, and provide all that we need.
