Do you expect a 3 year old to be capable of playing the piano? Or a 5 year old to be able to drive a car proficiently? Do you suppose a six year old can balance a checkbook? Would you be angry if they can’t do those things? Why wouldn’t you be angry? They mess up every time they touch the keyboard and every time they get a hold of a checkbook! If you can be reasonable with growing children, why don’t you think God can? Don’t you think God can tell the difference between rebellion and mistakes of learning? The Bible says God is love, not that God HAS love, but that God IS love. The Most High is the very definition of compassion, so why wouldn’t He think kindly of you?

Remember it is the devil who is the accuser that blames and criticizes. God doesn’t hate, He loves! God is like the delighted grandparent. Our heavenly Father isn’t mad AT us, He is mad ABOUT us! Just like a grandparent who oohs and ahhs over their grandchild – delighted at every new thing they can do – so our heavenly Father enjoys the very thought of us! God is passionate about every positive thing we accomplish. We are the “apple of His eye!” We are God’s favorite in all the universe! Of course, God has millions of “favorites!” But God is still takes pleasure in US!

Do children fall and make mistakes, of course! Have you ever met a perfect child, of course not! Do we love them anyway, you bet we do! When he boasted in the Garden, Peter thought his value to God was in the strength of his ability. A few days later, on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him. Three times Christ asked Peter if he loved Him. After we see the weakness of our ability, the only qualification to honor God is our love for Him. Martha thought that serving Jesus was the most important thing. But Christ indicated the most important thing is to sit at His feet and be transformed. And nothing makes God happier, He is pleased with you!
