Rivalry, a Competition for the same objective or for SUPERIORITY in the same field between persons.

More often than not, people who are in a marital relationship struggle for superiority, a struggle for being right or knowing better than the other

While some are obviously aggressive with this character trait others are quiet, subtle and can even be dangerous if and when they feel there is a threat to their authority and position.

 Various definitions of Marriage
... The state of being united as spouses in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law

Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a socially or ritually recognized union between spouses that establishes rights and obligations between them, between them and their children, and between them and their in-laws. The definition of marriage varies according to different cultures, but it is principally an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually sexual, are acknowledged. In some cultures, marriage is recommended or considered to be compulsory before pursuing any sexual activity. When defined broadly, marriage is considered a cultural universal.

Marriage takes work and determination to help make God's institution work, blame shifting,insultes,back-biting and gossipping about your ' other half' with anyone outside you two, name calling, bitterness and pure negativity as if one woke up one day to find oneself beside A MOST DANGEROUS ENEMY; simply ruins 'love' and likeness. The Bible does not give specific details or directions about a marriage ceremony, yet it does mention weddings in several places. Jesus attended a wedding in John 2. and He turned water into wine in Galilee to help the ceremony continue to flow well. Wedding ceremonies were a well-established tradition in Jewish history and in Bible times. Our Lord set the example for what the role of one to the other should be in order to be obedient to God.
The Bible clearly states that marriage is a holy and divinely established covenant... Genesis 2:18-25

A holy covenant before God
Malachi 2:14 / Mark 10:2-12
Genesis 2:24
Ephesians 5:31-32
Hebrews 13:4
1 Corinthians 7:1-16

If only couples who have made a decision to hand over the reins of their life to another person; realise that, to get to that point of real love and friendship, it is, wisdom, long suffering, patience and most importantly with God being above all, it takes team work, rather than rivaling each other
