Don't Give Up But Be Persistent

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’ “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’ ”And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:1-8 NIV

Have you not found through life’s experiences that often to get what you desire, you have needed to persevere? I am sure this has been the case. Christ, herein, tells us that we need to be persistent in our prayer to God. There may be different reasons why a request might not be answered quickly. God might be testing our faith. Maybe the answer of our request needs to be aligned with some other occurrence which will happen later. Or, maybe our request is truly not in our best interest. Whatever the reason, we must continue to ask God for that which is the desire of our heart. We need to learn the value of the virtue patience. The world seeks instant gratification, but that is not how we are to think. We must trust that the Lord will provide that which we need. If we trust Him with our very being, then we must trust Him with our requests in prayer.

Perseverance is not easy. But, life is not easy. We must expect our faith to be tested. Don’t give up quickly. Believe that God will provide the best answer of your prayer requests. He will, because He loves you and wants what is best for you!
