Thankful for Blessings

Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosyb met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan. Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:11-19 NIV

What a wonderful, healing miracle this is of our Lord. Yet, only one of the ten returned to praise God for what had been done for them.

It would be quite easy for us to shake our head and judge the nine who did not return to give thanks for what had been done for them. I suggest, though, that we not be quick to judge. How often do we not thank God for miracles and blessings for us? Realize that every day you awaken and are given another day of life is a blessing. Another day of life is not a given, it is a blessing. We often tend to take for granted that which we have, and this is not a good way to exist. We must always be thankful for the blessings we have. If you don’t believe you have any blessings, I am sorry to say you are very short-sighted.

Positive thinking is very important in life. And, one positive way to be in life is to be thankful for your blessings. Thinking in this manner gives you an upper hand over someone who does not think this way. Speak to the Lord in prayer about these blessings, acknowledging that they are gifts from Him. This pleases God.

Having a thankful attitude is truly a way to keep, or steer you life toward goodness. If you haven’t done this, then try it and see for yourself that it works. Blessings to all!
