“Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone. Woe to you Pharisees, because you love the most important seats in the synagogues and respectful greetings in the marketplaces. Woe to you, because you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without knowing it.” Luke 11:42-44 NIV

Many today are like the Pharisees in the time of Jesus, cordoning or isolating Jesus to a particular section of their life. God is not one to whom we are just intended to give one tenth of all we have, and that is all that is required of us. God is love. God is justice. If we wish to belong to God, we must be full of justice and love. We must do this without forgoing the tithe asked of us. God is not about numbers. God is love and care and compassion and mercy. We must have the heart of God to belong to God.

Are we, like many, seeking the approval of man rather than the approval of God? Never compromise the approval of God for the approval of man. That is a grave erring. Any praise received by man should be turned over to the glory of God. Let Him be praised for any good that comes from us being a vessel for Him.

We humans will all be forgotten over time, after we are gone. Yet God will always be. I am sure none of us would want an unmarked grave. Yet the marking of our grave is not what is truly of importance; rather we wish to know that our names are inscribed in Heaven!
