“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.” Luke 11:24-26 NIV

What is Christ speak of in this passage? I am sure the offerings for an answer to this passage are diverse in nature. What I believe is being discussed I am sure is also mentioned by others. I believe Jesus here refers to the state of inner being of a pseudo Christian. The sweeping of the house can refer to a confession of sins, or maybe even an altar call. Yet, the inside of the house was not washed cleaned. Jesus was never really invited into this inner house. His precious blood was never applied to truly cleanse this house. With the house having had only an artificial cleaning, it is quite easy for the impure spirits to return and take over again. The heart dedicated to worldly desires will always be controlled by these worldly desires.

We must of our own free will invite Christ into our inner home to do a thorough cleaning. We then belong to Him, follow Him, trust in Him, rely on Him, and carry out the will of the Heavenly Father and His Son.

Don’t accept that your inner home be swept by others. Have Christ do a total cleaning of your inner home. You then truly shall be cleansed!
