Seek Ye Thrice

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Luke 11:9-10 NIV

What is it that Jesus is telling us to seek?

First of all, He is telling us to seek Him, and through seeking Him, we seek the heavenly Father. God does not push himself upon us. He waits to be invited into our life. He wants to be in our life, and in control because we have asked Him to be so. God wants us to love Him with everything within us. It is the first commandment.

Secondly, Jesus is telling us to seek God’s will for us. We cannot truly come to the Father and the Son unless we are willing to let go of our will, and accept God’s will for us. A relationship with God is based upon faith and trust. Since God knows what is best for us, should we not then seek His will? Jesus uttered within the Lord’s Prayer “Thy will be done.” It says thy not my.

Thirdly, Jesus wants us to seek God kingdom on earth. The Lord’s Prayer says “on earth as it is in heaven.” We know God’s kingdom is in heaven. God’s kingdom can also be on earth. Jesus came to earth for us. Was not a part of the kingdom of God here on earth when Jesus lived amongst us? Does He not still live amongst us? By doing works for the advancement of the kingdom of God, we do this third part of seeking.

So, we are to seek the Father and the Son; we are to seek the Father’s will, and we are to seek God’s kingdom.

And what brings this all so beautifully together is that Jesus promises us in saying “The one who seeks finds.”
