The Wised and Learned

At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.” Luke 10:21 NIV

Who are the wise and learned that Jesus speaks of herein? We receive an education for preparation in living as adults within the world. So does this make all of us the wised and learned referred to by the Master? No! Another step is involved to “graduate” to this “elite” class. One must become totally dependent on relying of things of this world and what we have learned about them through education and life. If that is done at the expense of learning what Christ wants of us, then sadly we would fit into the group of whom Jesus spoke. Much of the ways of God require faith in things we cannot totally grasp. As a child our minds have not matured enough for us to adequately take care of us. Christ tells us that we must be like children, relying on our Heavenly Father to provide for us. We are to be guided by the indwelling Holy Trinity. We are not to worry about our lives. We are to be concerned with carrying out the work of the Master. If we trust, God truly will provide all that we need.

If we must be wise and learned, then let it be in the ways of the Lord, and not in the ways of mankind!
