Is It Hidden From Us?

He said to his disciples, “Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.” But they did not understand what this meant. It was hidden from them, so that they did not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask him about it. Luke 9:43b-45 NIV

Christ told the disciples to listen carefully to what He had to say, yet they did not understand what He had to say. It was hidden from them.

This was the second time the Lord had spoken to the disciples about His forthcoming suffering. He spoke plainly to them, yet the meaning was hidden from them. Did God purposefully hide the true meaning from the disciples? I do not believe that to be the case.

You see, God’s ways are not man’s ways, and God’s thoughts are not man’s thoughts. Mankind could not understand that a Messiah, the Son of God, would need to suffer and be put to death. But, these are the thoughts of man. God, however has a perfect plan, a plan of salvation and redemption for us all. And this perfect plan included that the Son of God would suffer in our place, that He would take our sins to Himself on the cross at Calvary. This is a plan that mankind could not have originated, or even believed was possible. We are so thankful that we have the word of God and the indwelling Spirit of Truth to lead us to the truth of the perfect plan of the Father. Many today still cannot believe the perfect plan of the Heavenly Father, and they reject it. These people’s thoughts are not God’s thoughts. Even though the disciples did not understand what Christ told them, it did serve its purpose. After Christ’s death and resurrection, the disciples did remember all the Lord had taught them. Through their sharing of times in Christ’s life and through the indwelling Spirit, they then were equipped to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Let us always remember that our thoughts are not those of God. We must accept through faith that which we cannot comprehend. We must be as little children. We must look at God with true wonder and awe!
