Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.” He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” Luke 8:19-21 NIV

Here Jesus speaks of how in the spiritual realm His mother and brothers (and sisters too) are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice. Remember that when Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well He told her that those who worship God must do so in spirit and truth.

We are told in John 1:12 that those who receive Him (Christ) are given the right to be called children of God. In John 12:36 we see that we can become Sons (and daughters) of the Light if we believe in the Light. The Light is Christ Jesus, who declares to be the Light of the World.

What a blessing it is to be a child of God. We carry within us the Light of the World, who is Jesus Christ. Christ will shine through us for all to see. What we must do is allow that light to shine. Do nothing to hinder it shining forth from you. Be the vessel the Lord wishes you to be. If you are His vessel, the light of Christ will shine forth from you, and the world will not put out that light!
