THEY WERE WRONG

How many times did I blame myself
When some other one mocked my song
And how many times did I take the fall
When the failing was their's all along.
I've walked oft in self-conceived loathing
And I've wondered why fate was so cruel
But it just might ring true
That the torment I knew
Was a match in an eternal duel.

Long before Earth and its peoples
Long before babbling tongues
There once was a battle in Heaven
That gave rise to the myriad lungs
Of a host of God's angels and demons
Yes, it's true He created them both
But the choices they made
They're still making today
As mankind runs away from His truth.

In the Garden that was known as Gethsemane
Our Lord fought the powers of hell
And they mocked Him and scourged Him
Far more than the Romans
And they blasphemed His Father as well.
How did Satan and his minions accomplish
All the foulness that lives in our souls?
Because we reached agreement with their perverted cause
And we wallowed in ungodly shoals.

Alone, I have often felt empty
But I know that my Lord felt the same.
And somehow, in that knowing
I have come to find peace
For I walk where my Savior has been.
And I'll learn to ignore all the arrows
That the enemy shoots at my soul
For they couldn't hurt Jesus
Not deep down in His Spirit
And they won't send His servant to hell.
