In My Fathers Eyes

I learned a lot from my Father’s eyes.
They told the tales of days gone by.
They were filled with stories
That made everyone laugh.
About Nan and Dan and ole Johnny’s cats.
Stories about Diaza and Jimala
Teasing the daylights out of ole Tom Hall
There was always a story in my Father’s eyes
He’d have the whole family laughing
Till we almost cried
His eyes had a twinkle a beacon of light.
You could always tell what you were in for
A story or a fight.
My Father’s eyes held the answers
To who he really was.
Just a man with great stories
Whether they were bad or whether they were good.
My Father’s eyes are closed now.
No more the light will shine.
Among his family or his friends
Nor the ones he left behind
For his eyes have reopened.
Unto God’s eternal light.
He stands in His glory
Telling all his stories
To his loved ones who gathered to reunite
With open arms and warm embrace
They welcomed Him into the afterlife.
