A Sword in One Hand, A Hammer in the Other

Nehemiah 4:17-20 17They who built on the wall, and they that bore burdens, so burdened themselves, everyone with one of his hands worked in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.18For the builders, everyone had his sword girded by his side, and so built. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.19And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.20In whatever place therefore you hear the sound of the trumpet, come you there unto us: our God shall fight for us.

When the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem they knocked down the walls and burned the city’s gates. The Iraelites were in persecution and Bondage. They were a downtrodden people who felt that God had abandoned them. But there were a few that still remembered who the God they serve is.

Nehemiah was King Artaxerxes Cup bearer. After he had heard about how Jerusalem was destroyed he was saddened in his heart. When the King seen he was saddened he asked him what was wrong. Nehemiah told him about how Jerusalem had been destroyed. He then found favor in the kings site and the king asked what do you request? So Nehemiah prayed. (Remember this always always always pray) He then asked if he could go and repair the walls of the city.

So Nehemiah and the remnant set out to rebuild what the enemy has destroyed.

We as followers of Christ are in a battle right now. There is lots of evil in this world that is trying to sneak in and destroy Our Houses. Families are being destroyed by many tricks of the enemy. Many in churches are dying from a lack of being fed and suffering from a spiritual anorexia. People are perishing all around us. What are we to do? My prayer is we who are Followers of Christ remember who we are in Him! Remember How Mighty Our God IS. That we are ready to do battle against the enemy to take back and to rebuild what he has destroyed.

We have a burden upon us to Be examples, Lights and a Reflection of Jesus to this world. It's a burden cause the enemy is always there trying to destroy what God has given us to build. But we have to be prepared to Fight and to Build. In Nehemiah 4:17-18 it says that the builders (us) need to have our sword by our side ready to do battle if the enemy tries to destroy so we can fight, and a hammer so that we can build. So we must be ready to fight and ready to build. Are You prepared?

Verse 19-20 says the work is large and many of us are separated. But if we hear the trumpet to be ready to come by each others sides. This means we all have different Ministries but we are United in our Faith. But when a brother or sister sounds an alarm all of us come running to each others side. And watch as We battle the enemy but when we are in Unity OUR GOD BATTLES FOR US! Hallelujah!

We must be ready to fight and ready to build. We do this by:

1. Prayer. Always keep in contact with God. Be effectual and fervant. Which means be right on target with your prayers. Example if your toe hurts don't pray for your hand.

2. Study. Study to show yourself approved a worker who Can rightly divide the truth. How can you battle your enemy the devil if you haven't sharpened your sword? Which is the Word of God. Study.

3. Praise and Worship. Give God praise and worship knowing that when the enemy comes like a flood the Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard or a flag signifying His Angelic Army.

4. Joy. Cause the Joy of the Lord is our strength.

5. Unity. It doesn't matter what denominations you may belong to Jesus said those who aren't against me are for me. So let's all who claim to Be Followers of Christ know we are powerful together. Helping each other. Got each others back.

6. Love. When we have love within us it destroys the hate that permeates this world. So let the world know we are His Disciples by our love.

7. Be Prepared. Know what you have to do cause the people perish without a vision so be prepared know what you have been called to do. Know your word. Always pray. Praise and Worship. Be in unity. And watch circumspectly all around so you'll always be prepared.

So a sword in one hand to smite the enemy and a hammer in the other to build or rebuild what the enemy has destroyed. Are you ready?
