WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE MERCY SEAT

The Mercy Seat
From the past where did it go
In churches today it's a no show
The Mercy Seat
Saints and sinners would all meet
For the Heavenly Father to greet
The Mercy Seat
The Spirit's presents was comfort all
As saints gathered to answer the call
The Mercy Seat
No miracle in brass cloth and wood
Yet the Spirits message was understood
The Mercy Seat
Believers met by the seekers side
To ask the Spirit to come and abide
The Mercy Seat
One by one on the bended knee
Many would come to God to plea
The Mercy Seat
So let's get back to the old  way
Seeking the alter to come and pray
The Mercy Seat

"And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above The Mercy Seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon The Ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel." (Exodus 25:17-22 KJV)

I remember, growing up in the church, the alter or "Mercy Seat",  as our church called it, was prevalent in our church. And I can remember the alter being filled with my preacher Daddy walking back and forth, in front of the alter, singing encouraging chorus, one after another, while all the people prayed through, as we would call it. Yes, prayer is the work of the church. And it all starts with the bended knee. It all starts by making the salvation's plea.

Those were certainly "good old days" as the "Spirit Filled" church services were concerned. So, what has happened? Where are all the alters, in our modern day church sanctuaries ?

Now, I realize the physical make up of that old alter was no different than any other construction. However, that old fashioned alter was very special for me, for that old alter was where I was first introduced to the Living God.

And where are the public invitations to make decisions for Christ ? You see, everyone Christ called in the scripture, He called publically. There's just something about making that all important decision in the presence of witnesses.  A decision that gives one future support, in times of temptation.  And a  decision that Satan cannot  deny.  

You may called me a "religious dinosaur', if you may. However, I still hold to that "Old Time"  religion. I still hold to the alter and the related invitations.

I guess one need only to stand up in front of the church, now-a-days, and shake the preachers hand to be saved. I'm not questioning the validity of such a maneuver, I just feel there's something special about kneeling before the Lord, in prayer.
