Drip. Drip. Drip. While skipping down the slippery sidewalk one early morning in May, tiny droplets, that shimmered and glistened in the peeking sunlight, tumbled down from the leaves of the trees, onto my nose, and trickled down my freckled face. “Hurry along!†exclaimed Miss Ava, as I leapt into another puddle, which caused the socks in my shoes to sag like the wrinkles on Miss Ava’s forehead. “Do not dishevel your lovely new skirt in the moistened dirt!†Hastily, I raced through the water towards the street corner, while reluctantly making an effort to hold the hem of my skirt above the deep puddles. If Miss Ava had the eyes of an innocent child, then maybe she would understand the simple joys of the street corner which emanate the liveliness of May.

Along the blossoming street corner, I was captivated by many vivid colors which reflected the splendor of spring. As my eyes witnessed the elaborately decorated garden beds, I could not help but wonder what life could be like as a flower in bloom. With my iridescent petals that gracefully dance in the wind and hypnotize ravenous caterpillars, I would be exceedingly content knowing that my petals put creation in ecstasy of God’s handiwork in me. Almost stumbling upon the frame of the garden box, I leaned over to smell the nectarous perfume of the brilliant bouquet arranged inside. The busy buzz of a bumble bee reverberated through my eardrum warning me of a possible, painful attack to defend its lifesource. Taking heed of its warning, I cautiously regained my composure and avoided being poisoned by its defensive stinger.

Pleasantly, a tingling sensation ran up my nose as I breathed in an unfamiliar, yet enticing aroma escaping from the window of the nearby coffee shop. Turning my head to follow the attractive scent, I immediately spotted a wee kitten, that slowly tiptoed up to the shop, like a bashful child who sneaks behind his mother to steal a forbidden cookie. Timid and shy, the kitten cautiously crept towards the climbing rose trellis positioned against the two story, red brick building. Swiftly, as if it was being pursued by a heinous predator, it ascended up the garden trellis and haphazardly stumbled upon the windowsill. Quite amused, I watched it roll and tumble into the kitchen, and heard the commotion of pots and pans crashing into each other that followed.

Just then, ear piercing sirens echoed down the busy street, which caused my head to start ringing and my ears to start dinging! Many people like colonies of ants, gathered around the
corner to witness the excitement. As I peeked around Miss Ava, I observed a massive vehicle moving fairly quickly down the street, with a giraffe sized ladder attached to the roof of the truck. Curiously, I wondered who would require the need of such an enormous ladder? The ceiling in my house would never need a ladder that extensive; therefore, whoever needs that ladder is most definitely a goliath!

As I was pondering all this, the crosswalk signal blinked to green, letting me know that it had come time to depart from my favorite street corner. “Come along!†commanded Miss Ava. Absentmindedly, I lunged into another puddle which soaked Miss Ava, who scrunched her nose at me imitating a prune. Before she had time to reprimand my carelessness, I quickly darted through the string of puddles along the street which splished and splashed in every direction like a waterspout. On the blissful street corner during the month of May, laughter, joy, and harmony are found echoing down the lane whenever someone takes the time to listen.

Welcome to Faithwriters, Madison! Your words paint a delightful picture of a spring morning through the eyes of a child. This particular passage caused me to chuckle, it was so apt: "as I leapt into another puddle, which caused the socks in my shoes to sag like the wrinkles on Miss Ava’s forehead". You have a delightfully creative mind which will take you far.
