The UN Security Council's passing of the controversial anti-settlement resolution condemning Israel's building in occupied territories has now reached viral proportions by means of the internet. Yes, history is being made, but not for the good of " God chosen people Israel". Three of the internet comments are paraphrased below. (Please surf the internet to obtain additional information.)

The US abstained in the vote that was approved by 14 of the council’s 15 members to applause. The resolution first introduced by Egypt in coordination with the Palestinians calls Israel “settlement building” in East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank a “flagrant violation under international law” and demands Israel discontinue all settlement activities immediately.

A veto by the US – or any of the five permanent members of the council- would have killed it. (New York Post.com)

America's current presidential administration abstained from voting Friday on a UN Security Council resolution critical of Israel’s settlements in the West Bank, drawing accusations from the Israeli government that Washington had abandoned its closest Middle East ally and dealt a blow to the chances of peace talks with the Palestinians. By abstaining from voting on Friday, the outgoing presidential administration brushed aside the in-coming administration’s demands that the US exercise its veto and provided a climax to years of icy relations with Israel's leadership. (Dailymail.com)

What will be the consequence of this lack support of the nation of Israel? And what will it mean for America? From a prophetic standpoint, we know that God will never abandon Israel, regardless of the mindset of the secular world. You see, the Jews are God's chosen people selected by God Himself for a specific purpose. (Ezekiel 36:22-23)

I realize that according to all surveys or opinion polls, the Jewish race is now far from having true loyalty to their God. However, God never breaks a promise, including to the Jewish people. (Isaiah 40:2) So why did God choose the Jewish people?

They were chosen as His people for two reasons: Because of His promise He made to Abraham, and because regardless what we humans may do, God is still faithful in keeping His promises. (Deuteronomy 7:6-8)

In Genesis 12:1-3 we find a breakdown of God's sovereign will. Abraham was instructed to leave his country to go to a land that God would show him. If he did so, God promised to make him a great nation, to make his name great, and he would be a blessing. (Genesis 14:14)

However, God ends this particular passage by giving a reciprocal covenant. God promised to bless and protect those nations who stand with Israel, but also to curse those nations going against Israel. (Genesis 12:3) The prophet Zechariah also repeated this warning from God. (Zechariah 2:8)

How then does America stand in the light of this particular scripture passage? Not so good, I fear. On October 1, 2015, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke to the United Nations General Assembly. Here is just a small excerpt of this powerful speech. “In every generation, there were those who rose up to destroy our people. Yet the Jewish people were preserved. And now another regime has risen, swearing to destroy Israel. That regime would be wise to consider this: I stand here today representing Israel, a country 67 years young, but a nation-state of a people nearly 4,000 years old."

Like it or not, our holy scriptures were given and ordained by God (2 Timothy 3:16), and these human authors were primarily Jewish. With the exception of the books of Luke and Acts, every other book of the Bible was authored by Jewish writers. Yes, God made an everlasting covenant with Father Abraham. (Jeremiah 31:35-37) (Psalm 105:8-9)

Sadly today however, the demographics have changed, as public opinion seems to have turned against Israel, including The United States. One AP reporter put it this way;

"You don't need to be a history professor or a psychiatrist to understand what's going on. Having rehabilitated themselves against considerable odds in a minute corner of the earth, the descendants of a powerless people who were pushed out of Europe and the Islamic Middle East have become what their grandparents were; the pool into which the world spits. The Jews of Israel are the screen onto which it has become socially acceptable to project the things you hate about yourself and your own country. The tool through which this psychological projection is executed is the international press."

Today the nation of Israel is anxiously seeking peace. However, according to God's holy Word, peace will not come until the Messiah comes to set up His kingdom here on earth. Please read Ezekiel 40-48.

Now we turn back to America. I have great hopes for the future of our country. Even though this "Abrahamic" covenant seems to be ignored by so many governments, we as a nation must take a positive stand with Israel. We must not isolate ourselves from this great country, that is, if we want to continue to be blessed.

Yes, God's promise is just as true today as when it was given to the many inspired scripture writers. (1 Peter 1:20-21) Regardless of America's would-be stand, we are fighting a losing war of diplomacy. God's people will always occupy God's real estate. (Jeremiah 32:37,41) (Ezekiel 11:17) (Ezekiel 20:42) (Ezekiel 34:13) (Ezekiel 37:21,25) (Ezekiel 39:28) (Amos 9:14-15)

These prophetic scriptures are backed up by the following statement of Dr. Walvoord. ”Only by indiscriminate spiritualization of all the terms and promises relating to the land can these prophecies be nullified. The fact that they are stated and restated so many times in so many different periods of Israel's history, even in times of apostasy and departure from God as in the days of Jeremiah and Ezekiel, and by so many of the minor prophets makes clear that God intended them to be taken at their face value."

So, pray, and pray hard for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6) Amen!

" God tells us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem in Psalm 122:6-9: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ‘May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.’ For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, ‘Peace be within you.’ For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity.” From this passage, we see that praying for peace and good to come to God’s holy city benefits those who pray. God promised blessings on those who bless Israel and curses on those who curse her (Genesis 12:3), and since Jerusalem is depicted as the center of Jewish life, it follows that those who pray for her peace and security will be granted peace themselves.

Praying for the peace of Jerusalem is most appropriate for a city whose name literally means “peaceful” and which is the residence of the God of peace. The phrase “peace be upon Israel” is found also at the end of Psalm 125:5 and 128:6, indicating that it was a common farewell blessing. Further, Jerusalem will be the scene of Christ’s return (Acts 1:11; Zechariah 14:4), and at that time He will establish permanent peace within its walls. All Christians should be eagerly awaiting His return and praying for the time when the Prince of Peace will reign in Jerusalem."

Bottom line, does America want to be blessed or cursed by God ?

"I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." (Genesis 12:3)
