After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.” John 17:1-5 NIV

Here Jesus commences with the beautiful prayer to the Heavenly Father on the evening before His death. Let’s remember that our Savior took on human form. He felt human emotions. Yet, He knew His mission was to greatly suffer so that mankind might be saved. Imagine all the emotions our Lord must have felt on that evening.

Jesus had glorified the Father on earth by finishing all the work the Father had given to Him. And now He would glorify Him further by being the eternal sacrifice which was needed for the salvation of mankind. In carrying out the perfect plan of the Father, Jesus would thus be glorified by His and our Heavenly Father.

Jesus was given authority by the Father to bestow eternal life upon all that the Father had given to the Son. Eternal life is knowing the Father and the Son. By knowing and obeying them, they along with the Holy Spirit indwell the believer. The three make their home inside the believer. What a true unbelievable gift is eternal life, God dwelling within us!

With the indwelling Trinity, the believer will carry on the work given to advance the kingdom of God. We are God’s vessels. Is it not marvelous that He uses us for the purpose of the advancement of His kingdom? This is all part of God’s perfect plan. Who else could have created such a perfect plan besides our God? There is no one else who can do what our God can do! Praise the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit eternally! AMEN!!
