Weep and Mourn

“Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.” John 16:20 NIV

How is it that we, believers in Jesus Christ today weep and mourn? We know that we have salvation through our Lord, and will spend eternity with Him and the Heavenly Father. So why is it that we would weep and mourn? Here are two answers. First, we would weep and mourn when we deny Christ through sinful actions. As Christians, we will feel remorse and a need for repentance. We will feel the need and desire to return to our Lord and seek His forgiveness. The extent of the sin can tie in to the amount and intensity of the weeping and mourning. When we humbly seek the Lord with a repentant heart, we can then feel the joy again of knowing our Savior has washed us clean. We can then feel joy again that was not with us when we had denied our Lord. Secondly, we who are true believers weep and mourn over all the lost souls. Souls which have not found the salvation and true life that can only be provided by Jesus Christ. How do we deal with this weeping and mourning? We use the gifts the Holy Spirit has bestowed upon us to share the Good News about Jesus Christ. We who believe in Christ have all been blessed with girts from the Holy Spirit to carry out the work of our Lord. We must be humble vessels and carry out our assigned mission. We can then feel the joy associated with others coming to the Lord and receiving salvation. We can rejoice with the angels in heaven.

Unbelievers rejoice today in their ignorance. They say that God is dead, or does not exist. How truly foolish they are in their thinking. They carry on with their worldly desires, storing up things which will not accompany them when they leave this world. They are like weeds that will be thrown into the fire and burned. Their rejoicing at what they have now is quite short lived. We as believers must pray for all the unbelievers. All souls are precious to the Father and the Son, and we must do all we can to assist in reaping the harvest for our Lord. The harvest time is short my fellow believers. Let us work in earnest and humbly for our Lord! AMEN!!
