The angel Gabriel arrived
To announce the news
To the virgin Mary,
Who was more than a little confused
He said she was chosen by God,
In whom she had found favour
She would bear a holy child,
Jesus, the Son of God, our Saviour
She was troubled and afraid
And pondered his proclamation
When Gabriel explained that Christ
Would reign, over the Jewish nation
He will rule from King David’s throne,
But His kingdom will not die
He will be great and called,
The Son of the Most High
There was a pregnant pause
And then Mary said,
"How can this be possible,
Since I am unwed"
The angel told her that,
By the Holy Spirit's power
She would conceive,
for even at this very hour
Her cousin Elizabeth,
Who was barren and quite old,
Was expecting a child
Of whom the prophets had foretold
"For God can do all things,"
The angel Gabriel said
"I am willing to be used of God;
Let it be," she said
Then while she and Joseph
Were in Bethlehem for the census taking
She gave birth in a stable, where they,
In desperation, were staying
She wrapped Jesus in cloths
And placed him in a manger
Then some shepherds appeared,
And this night grew even stranger
They told of an angel
Who'd appeared to them in the night
And how their glorious brilliance
Gave them such a fright
But the angel comforted them,
With good news of great joy:
For in the city of David,
There was born a boy
He is Christ the Lord,
The Saviour for all mankind
Go and see for yourselves,
And surely you will find
A baby in a manger,
Wrapped up in clothing strips;
Then suddenly they saw a host,
Of angels in worship
Praising God saying,
"Glory to God in the highest heaven
And peace upon the earth,
Among men who please Him”
Mary and Joseph were surprised
At this exciting story
The shepherds rejoiced, thanking God
And giving Him due glory
For all they had seen and heard,
All that they had witnessed
These humble souls,
By God, were richly blessed
