Hide Not The Light

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 NIV

It is a widely held principle that goodness is associated with light, while evil is associated with darkness. Earlier in the gospel according to John Jesus had stated that those who choose evil do not come to the light because they do not want their evil deeds exposed. It is so much easier to see what happens when there is light, so evil can much more easily be exposed in light.

Jesus tells us that He is the light of the world, and that most certainly is true. Jesus is holy, divine, and full of truth and goodness. He is the bright light shining in a world that would otherwise be full of darkness. He is light that doesn’t stop within Himself. His light radiates within the believer. We need the light of Christ shining within us in order to carry out the work He gives us to do for the advancement of God’s kingdom. Christ’s light shines in our hearts and souls. Just as Christ has provided us with His light, He wishes for us to share this light with others. Christ tells us that no one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it is hidden. Light is meant to shine. Jesus tells us to let our light shine before man that the good we do may be seen and that God may be glorified. We who bask in the light of Jesus will not walk in darkness.

The light which Jesus provides gives true life to the believer. Our life now has true meaning and true purpose. We can now know the true purpose for our existence. We can bask in the fact that we now know why we were created. Our search for true meaning to life has been revealed to us.

Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus, we praise and thank you so much for giving us light which provides us with true life. Jesus, thank you for being the light of the world. Thank you for opening our hearts and souls to the blessed truth you bring to us. Thank you for being our Savior and our Lord. You give us a life beyond understanding. We will spend eternity with You and the Heavenly Father, with our Heavenly bodies, in God’s kingdom forever and ever! AMEN!!
