They journeyed from Bethel and all was well,

but it was not too long before mischief fell.

It was time for Rachel to give birth again,

and she was overwhelmed with great pain.

The midwife said “Fear not, you will have this son,

It won‟t be long before this battle is won.”

But the time had come for Rachel to depart,

And bitter anguish filled her heart.

As she died, she cried aloud in pain,

that which would be her baby's name.

“Benoni – Shall be your name.

A son of sorrow and of pain.

Rejected and despised by one and all,

this will be your portion and your call.”

Now Jacob hurriedly entered the tent,

shattered by the turn of events.

The cries of the baby reached his ear,

and he carried him and held him near.

As the baby nestled in his arms,
he gathered himself and remained calm.

A deep rejoicing filled his heart,

as a new name filled his thoughts.

“Benjamin – Shall be your name.

You are my blessing and my gain.

I call you the son of my right hand,

you will be a blessing to the land.”

Born in sorrow, birthed in pain,

Benoni - was our own name.

Forgotten, forsaken by our very own,

Rejected, despised we stood alone.

But when our cry reached His ear,

He stretched His arms and drew us near.

We now have a place in His heart,

Forever present in His every thought.

Benjamin – Shall be our name,

We are no longer children of sorrow and shame.

We have been held by Gods right hand,

called to be a blessing to the land
