The Donkey at the Crossroads

Bound at a place where two ways meet,
there stood a colt at the side of the street.
An object of ridicule to all who passed by,
and to his master a useless beast

No shelter from the rain and storm,
no shelter from the scorching heat.
Many days and nights passed by,
but no respite for the donkey of the street

When you are bound at the cross roads of life,
you often feel helpless and cry.
When you are rejected, despised and condemned by all,
just hold on to your God and wait patiently for his call.

Now Jesus came near the village one day,
towards Jerusalem, he had set his path.
At the foot of a mountain he stood,
pondering how his final journey should start.

He could have called for a beautiful horse,
or asked for a chariot of gold.
He could have commanded for a whirlwind from heaven,
to be transported like the prophet of old.

But the cry from the crossroad reached his ear,
and he sent his disciples down that road.
To loose and bring that useless colt,
a weak beast on which no man rode.

They brought the colt and laid their garments on him,
some even spread their clothes on the way.
The king of heaven rode on that lowly beast,
fulfilling His call and purpose that day.

He calls the foolish to confound the wise,
He lifts up the fallen and makes them to rise.
He clothes the weak with the power of his might,
for the last in this world, are the first in his sight.
