   I went kayaking recently on a beautiful fall afternoon.  As I glided along close to the shore of the lake I couldn't help but be impressed by the lovely homes that lay one after the other along the water's edge.  If most of the people in the world were to live or even vacation in any of these homes, I thought,  they would think they had died and gone to heaven!  And yet there was not a single resident in their yards or on the docks enjoying the lake on this Saturday afternoon, until I finally glimpsed one man who seemed to be retreating inside at that moment.  I heard no voices until I heard a woman's laughter carrying across the water,  but I could never quite tell from where it came.  A setting most people in the world would consider heaven on earth was virtually empty and seemed to be largely unappreciated.  Was this because so few people in these times are truly living in what they would consider a heaven on earth, no matter what their circumstances? 
  There were two other small boats I noticed in the distance.  Don't get me wrong.  I enjoyed the peace and the privacy, but I also marvelled at it.  I marvelled at how blessed people can be and not seem to be aware of it at the time, aware enough to be happy about it,  or to have or take the time to enjoy it!  My wife was waving to me from one of the small docks at the end of the lake where she was basking in the sun in her folding chair as she read a good book.  Now, I might be biased, but there was a woman clearly enjoying herself as she absorbed the splendor of the lake and the occasion.  So that's how it works, she was enjoying it all enough for a hundred other people!
