Spiritual Food

“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” John 4:34 NIV

Jesus at times used the comments of others to lead the discussion to spiritual truths. The disciples of Jesus were concerned about Him getting some food to eat. He used this as an opportunity to teach them about spiritual food. His spiritual food was to do the will of the Heavenly Father and to complete the work the Father had given to Him. Jesus was so committed to the Father and His perfect plan that He desired more than anything to do the Father’s will. He knew that this was His purpose for coming to earth.

We, as Christians, have the need for spiritual food. Our spiritual food comes in the form of reading the word of God, the bible, and prayer. These provide us with the spiritual nourishment we need. These help us to remain united to the Father and the Son. Without this spiritual food, we would die a spiritual death. Our desires would return to that of the flesh. Earthly desires would begin to consume us. We would make decisions based on our desires, not God’s. Love entails a closeness to that which is loved. We who love the Father and the Son want to be close to the Trinity. We read God’s word to know what His desire is, shown to us in written word. We communicate with God in prayer so that we can let Him know our needs (which He already knows), to praise Him for who He is, and to listen for His voice to speak with us. Communication is critical to the success of any relationship. It is no different to our relationship with the Lord and the Heavenly Father.

From our spiritual nourishment and the indwelling Holy Spirit, we are led to do the work given to us by God. Our hearts are such that we yearn to be vessels of the Father and Son so that their work may be accomplished through our letting them work in and through us.

Always seek spiritual nourishment. May your heart and soul always remain united to the Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ! AMEN!!
