DAY FORTY-THREE

 A FINAL WORD

TO THE FAITHFUL

“. And he that overcometh, and keepeth my word unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of the potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my father. And I will give him the Morning Star. He that hath an ear let him hear what the spirit saith unto the churches. ( Revelation 2:27-29)

In these verses, Jesus stresses the judgments pronounced do not apply to those who are faithful. Now He continues to explain the rewards of being faithful.

First, Jesus tells them to hold fast to what they know to be true. The idea is holding them tightly so none is lost. Including in the idea of holding fast is the idea to set up a guard of protection on their hearts.

Second, verse 26 contains a promise and a condition. The verse is not telling us that salvation comes through our ability to overcome. The over- comer has faced the battle, endured the pain, and has remained faithful unto the end. The verse is speaking about receiving rewards, not receiving salvation. All Christians have salvation, but rewards come because of works. Some may question whether it is possible to be part of the unfaithful majority and still have salvation? The further question is: why would we want to live in doubt and have no rewards? Only God knows their hearts and final outcome. Not all Christians shall receive the same reward. God is telling the saints at Thyatira, that they will be rewarded because they have overcome.

The first reward is, they will receive power over the nations and rule with a rod of iron. As pictured, it is like the rod breaks the vessels of clay to powder. The faithful saints who were once part of the minority shall share in the victories associated with Christ’s victory. Finally, in verse 28 this final promise is that He will give to them “the Morning Star.” .In Revelation 22:16 we have the further reference to this. “I am the root and offspring of David and the bright and morning star” In Malachi 4:2, we are told, “the sun of righteousness shall appear with healing in his wings”. Jesus refers to Himself as “The morning star” Perhaps the easiest way to understand this is in reference to His coming. As a light shining out of darkness He shall appear. The morning star shall come and catch those faithful ones to be with Him. The morning star will be theirs as they will be caught up with Him.
