DAY FORTY-ONE
JEZEBEL: Her Judgment
“Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches will know that I am He, which searchest the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.” (Revelation: 22, 23).
The obvious message in our text is that the deception is already taking place. Satan has already won the battle over God’s uninitiated, vulnerable people. It is necessary to detract a little bit and understand something of the true history that took place during the time of the historical Jezebel This present evil has a historical background that occurred during the ministry of the prophet Elijah. I Kings chapter 16-22.gives the account of this history. A similar thing happened during the reign of Ahab, Israel’s most wicked king. Note the extent of his evil as found in I Kings 16:30, 31 “And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him. And it came to pass as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Eth-ball king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal and worshiped him.” Jezebel, doubtless, was bad news for everyone. Ahab the king, allowed Jezebel to control the country. Through her methods of fear and intimidation, she persuaded the Israelites to abandon God and embrace the religion of Baal. The church at Thyatira was embracing these methods. These words describe only a small portion of Jezebel’s wickedness. A day came when she and her husband Ahab faced the consequences of their wickedness. There was a pay day for their evil.
