Jude 24 “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling…”

“We are going to play a trust game next” announced the camp counselor. Team building was the thrust of the day and while “Trust game” sounded innocuous enough at first, as our team moved to the “trust wall” things quickly got much more serious! The wall stood about five feet higher than ground level. My heart began to pound as I began to envision what was about to take place.

“Each team member will stand on top of the wall facing away from your teammates. The rest of the team will be lined up next to one another on ground level, arms outstretched, to catch you before you hit the ground. With eyes closed and arms tightly folded across your chest you are to fall backward into their waiting arms”.

The counselor attempted to assure us that many outstretched arms would equal a safe landing for the faller but my skepticism kept me from braving the challenge myself until I saw how it turned out for the first several victims. Knowing that my safety net was a human chain and that a weak link could result in an ugly situation made it a frightening exercise.

God, however, has no weak link; He has everything under perfect control. The Bible affirms that He alone is able to keep you from falling - so you don’t have to live life in fear. May your soul be strengthened today by the knowledge that the almighty, omniscient God who created you, loves you and lives in you is trustworthy and you can be certain that He holds your life safely in His loving arms. Thanks be to God! Amen.
