Early Morning Decisions

We make choices every day, some we don’t even think about, they come automatically.  I was reminded of that recently as a nursing home worker told how an elderly man was dealing with life.  He was 92 years old and his wife of 70 years had passed away. He made arrangements to enter a nursing home, as he was legally blind.  On arrival, an employee spoke to him about what his room looked like. She noticed a big smile come across his face as he stated with the enthusiasm of a child, “I love it!”

“Mr. Jones, you haven’t seen the room yet,” the worker laughed.

“That doesn’t have a thing to do with it,” he replied.  “Happiness is something you decide   ahead of time.  Whether I like my room or not doesn’t depend on how the furniture is arranged, it’s how I arrange my mind.  I’ve already decided to love it.  I made that decision when I awoke this morning.”

How God would love it, if we awoke every morning with His promises on our mind. He has  promised us protection, peace of mind, that He does not change, a home in Heaven, that He watches over His word, making sure He performs all His promises (Jeremiah 1:12)  and  there is no way anyone will ever “snatch us” out of His hands. (John 10:27-30)

Have you ever wanted to make God Himself smile?  I believe that happens when we decide we totally love the day ahead of us, sight unseen. You may say, “But you don’t know what I have to deal with.  You are right, but God does and there is not a better walking partner through life. He is a good God!
