God is angry

Hillary says Donald is wrong, that our country is doing just fine. I say Hillary is wrong. The trouble is that neither she nor Donald knows why our country is in trouble.

Neither one of them ever mentions the moral decay of our once great nation.

You would have to have your head buried in the sand not to know that sexual immorality is the big problem. Pornography is everywhere thanks to the internet and Hollywood. In fact, you don’t even have to find a porn site for pornography these days; the sex scenes in the movies from Hollywood are just as graphic.

And the language in the films from the movie makers, and even on TV (such as FX) is way beyond necessary. One case in point (and there are many), is a police drama titled “Justified”.

I started watching it on my Amazon Prime because I’m a retired cop and I like cop shows but it didn’t take long for the Spirit within me to say, “Should you be watching this?”

It has nudity, graphic sexual situations and every other word is a cuss word, which includes the names of God and Jesus.

The next thought I had was the immediate reminder of the Book of Ephesians. In chapter five, verses three and four tell us, God’s people, to avoid sexual immorality, obscenity and impurity. Verse eleven of chapter five tells us to “Take no part in these worthless deeds, instead expose them.”

So, that is what I am doing here; I am exposing the immorality that is sweeping across our nation. And make no mistake about my brothers and sisters; God is angry.

He says that homosexuality is “detestable” in Leviticus 18:22, but we have people like Bruce Jenner and many others walking around bragging about it. It has become accepted into our culture as an alternative life style. IT IS SIN!

Adultery is also sin but we even have church members caught up in adulteress situations. Oh, don’t deny it; I know better. I could even name a few.

Drunkenness, immoral behavior, and obscenity should be preached in the church but very few will touch these subjects out of fear of losing their position.

I know what I’m saying probably offends some of you but this stuff needs to be brought out into the open.

I spent two years in seminary and, as a way to pay my tuition, I worked as a patrolman for Seminary Security. We learned there were several married students involved in wife swapping and I, personally, found a stack of porn magazines hidden in the ceiling tiles of the break room in the men’s dorm.

Those people were there to study for ministry and got themselves involved in that trash. Is it any wonder the church is failing to do its job if these kinds of people are leading them? And God is angry!

Even while writing this, I learned that homosexuality has invaded the cartoon, comic book market. Yes, now we will see that Wonder Woman is bisexual.

“Bisexual” is another word like “gay”. They are both replacement words for homosexuality. Even those involved in it are ashamed to call it what it is. It’s sin! And God is angry.

In the Old Testament we read that God allowed His chosen people, Israel, to be taken into captivity because of idolatry and sexual immorality. Will that happen to us? Is God setting us up for a great fall? The enemy is at the door.

Not everybody will admit it although everybody knows that this nation of ours was founded on Christian principals. Our laws are based, mainly, on the Ten Commandments. But we have been led astray; we have blended into a world of greed and sexual immorality.

The only hope for this country that I love so dearly is for us, God’s people, to repent and turn back to Him. We must reconnect with the power within us. The Holy Spirit is almost an unknown among many of God’s people. When was the last time you heard a sermon preached on the Holy Spirit?

When was the last time you witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit in your worship service? If you are a true believer the Holy Spirit dwells within you and it is up to you to allow Him to take control.

In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians (5:18), he says, “Do not be drunk with wine, instead be filled with the Holy Spirit.”  What he means is that by being drunk on wine, you are allowing that wine to control you. When you’re drunk on wine, your body does not react the way it should. You have lost control.

But Paul is saying to allow the Holy Spirit to control us. When the Holy Spirit is in control, we cannot help but to bring glory to God and His anger will cease.

When I started writing this, I sat at my desk and prayed over the paper I was writing on. I asked the Holy Spirit to guide me through this because I cannot do it on my own.

And that is the way we, as God’s people, need to face every single thing we do. Not just the ministers and preachers; but the policemen, the carpenters, the bus drivers, and every one of us. Whatever the task, we should ask the Spirit for guidance.

Maybe, just maybe, if enough of us will begin to depend on the leading and the power of the Holy Spirit, God will smile on us and heal our land.

Let us pray: Holy Spirit of God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, we ask that you begin to convict God’s people everywhere of their need to repent and confess so that God, who is faithful and just, will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And to God be the glory. Amen
