“This is my command: Love each other.” (John 15:17 NIV)

We must notice first, that what Jesus says here is a command. Christians are not given a choice as to whether or not to love, or who we choose to love.

Love is often a much abused word. Each of us has our own thinking as to what is love. So how do we know what really is love. A beautiful description of love is this: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV). I know this passage speaks much of what love is not, but, it lets us thus know then what love is like.

How can we live our lives loving as is shown in the above? We do this by following our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is the epitome of love. If the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit dwell within our heart, mind, and soul, we will love as we should. Oh sure, we will have times when our actions are anything but loving, but we can take these failures to the Lord in prayer, and ask Him to forgive us, and lead us back to a loving manner.

Read often about the loving actions of our Lord. Pray and ask Him to make you a vessel of His love. You must want people to see the love of Christ when they see you.

We as Christians must show the world the love of our Lord and Savior. That love cannot be surpassed.
