Healing of the leper My favorite miracle

In Matthew 8:1-4 we are given the account of the healing of the leper by Jesus Christ. As a result of his devastating skin disease, the man was ostracized and deemed unclean and untouchable. The leprous man knelt before Jesus and told him 'Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.'

He did not question Jesus' ability to heal, but he had some reservations about his willingness. He believed Jesus could heal him, but he doubted if Jesus would heal him. Jesus reached out his hand, touched the man and said to him 'I am willing, be clean.' He was immediately cleansed of his leprosy!!

So the question is this: Why is this my favorite miracle?The answer to the question lies in the fact that the leper and I have had some striking similarities in my past. Unlike the leper whose uncleanness was the result of a visible skin disease which everyone could see, my uncleanness was as a result of negative emotions. At a time in my life, unforgiveness and addictive self-pity resulted in the spread of an unseen 'skin disease' on my soul. I looked pretty alright on the outside, but on the inside, I had festering boils which hindered my fellowship and walk with God.

Just like the leper, many are unclean because of the the ravaging and destructive effects of walking in the flesh. Emotions such as unforgiveness, jealousy, offense and bitterness can darken our souls and make us terribly unclean.

The good news is that Jesus is still willing and able to cleanse. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). I asked him to cleanse me and forgive me. And he did!!! If you need emotional healing, confess your faults and ask him to cleanse you. Make a commitment to remain vitally connected to him because apart from him, you can do nothing and you will not succeed (John 15:5).

As he demonstrated by healing the leper, he is willing, he is able, and he is faithful to cleanse you.
