What If

She was just a teenage girl when she had her child
Immature and still so very young
Even though forgiven by Yahweh Himself
Society never forgave her wrong

Her parents separated years ago
Each lived with another not their spouse
And yet they wondered why
Their daughter began to carouse

The schools taught her sex education
Even gave her condoms too
Somewhere in their teachings they forgot
To mention that abstinence was the best to do

The father of the child himself
Just disappeared –no where to be found
The idea, the thought of raising a child
Was much too profound

Penalized by society for her mistake
To eke a living for her child she had to fight
So sadly, this child herself
Became a woman of the night

People talked about the way she lived
Men whistled and called her “honey”
Yet, it was the men themselves
That paid for her services with their money

Often she cried in despair
At what her life turned out to be
She felt trapped, imprisoned
A life sentence-never to be free

No-one would lift a finger
Or reach out a helping hand
After all, she was a harlot
An immoral woman

But what if things had been different
And someone had been there
To teach her right from wrong
To show that they cared

What if man could have forgiven her
As unconditionally as God himself
And instead of treating her with criticism
Reached out to help?

What if her parents showed her by example
That sex was only for marriage
Would it have stopped
A child pushing a baby carriage

What if sex education was taken out of school
Or taught that one should wait
Would she at such any early age
Still have made the same mistake

What if the men didn’t pay her wages
And someone offered her a job
Would she have kept her dignity
The thing society robbed

What if-society forgave her
And showed her what Christianity was
Taught her about Yahshua
And His Unconditional love

But in the meantime
She has to find a way to live
Not just for herself, for her child too
And still I cannot help but wonder “What If”
