Easter’s Love; Defined by a Dog?

With daffodils and crocus pushing their way out of their winter sleep, our senses are enticed with inspirations for neatly arranged flower beds, singing birds, and the onset of Easter.  There is a sense of impending hope hovering in the atmosphere, as the newness of spring reflects new life that was freely given to us.  As we dress in our festive dresses, and fill baskets with trinkets and candies, we celebrate the unrestricted love of God in sending his son Jesus to die for us on the cross.

 How do we as mere humans even begin to fathom this concept of love?
 Maybe, it is as simple as looking at our dogs.

 When I behold my dog, I witness love in her desire to purely be by my side.  She exhibits an unshakable fondness towards me and showers me with grace when my day is consumed with activity, and there is no time for a game of tug-o-war, or a walk.  She demonstrates pure joy in her greetings, no matter how long we have been apart.  She cherishes me for who I am, accepting my mistakes and imperfections.  She clings to my side when the inevitable storms of life come my way, caressing my thoughts with peace and trust, as if saying, “It will be okay, I’m here for you.”

As my hand rubs her head I realize what a gift I have received, and astonishingly, my only part was simply choosing her.

 Are these not the same attributes as those of God?

  But then, isn’t the word dog spelled backward, God?

  Coincidence?
